Whispering Peaks, as its name suggested, was a quiet and eerie place; only the sound of the wind snaking through the snow drifts prevailed, even over the shouts of the travelers making their way towards a battle. Emei was still happily perched upon Rohai's shoulders, head tucked into the end of the Lucario's scarf to shield herself from the icy wind. Chill rode on Barkley, hiding himself in the Arcanine's fur for warmth. Zhu and Master Shao didn't seem at all bothered by the harsh wind; Emei was silently in awe at the Mienshao's steadfastness in the face of the horrible weather, and she felt an urge to hurry up and evolve. If only Rohai hadn't placed dibs on the scroll before Emei could...
"Everyone, hold up a sec," came a quite voice from inside Barkley's mane. Chill removed himself from the fur before carefully scaling Barkley's head, wincing as he pulled on a few injuries in the process.
"Sir? What's wrong...?" Rohai uttered, on edge. Whispering Peaks certainly set a nervous atmosphere. The Mincinno adjusted his shades, and Emei wondered if this was some kind of nervous habit.
"He's close by."
Chill had barely finished his short sentence when the howling, icy winds suddenly died down, revealing sheer cliff faces on either side of the group that none of them had noticed (though Emei was sure that Master Shao knew all along). From behind the craggy outcrops, faces peered out; Rohai spotted a Glaceon, then a Sneasel. A Froslass dissolved from the icy horizon. Finally, a Dewgong climbed onto a ledge. It was immediately apparent to the rescuers that all the Pokémon had an unearthly, ethereal blue glow to their eyes. Its sight ablaze, the Dewgong wrapped his tail around two figures that no one had spotted yet; Mindi and Cindi. Chill drew in a short gasp, grinding his teeth, and immediately turned his head skyward.
"Where are the rest of the hostages, Shiv?!"
As if materialising from the snowy mist, Shiv appeared before anyone could register him. Around his neck was the coveted triangle, taking on it's owners evil glint in the icy light. The young martial artists drew in their own gasp at the sight of Maple, held fast in the Skarmory's talons.
"Caught up to us then, eh?" Shiv muttered, voice snide. Rohai winced at the metallic ambience his voice carried, as it it were claws on a chalkboard. From this distance, it was hard to confirm, but Rohai spotted what looked like a horrid scar over the bird's eye; blind, perhaps...?
"And I was hoping I could make off with the Triangle and lose you. Ah, nevermind," the Skarmory shrugged, dangling Maple threateningly over a spiky patch of rocks. "I shan't pass up a chance to humiliate you twice in the same day."
Fell behind a bit there! And I'll probably redo the tiny story later as it's half 2 in the morning and I can't think.
